Medical gas infrastructure projects often involve plant rooms that were never designed for the equipment now going into them. In this case, the route from delivery vehicle to final position required the team to navigate a loading bay entrance, descend a ramp, and then use the building’s goods lift to reach the plant room — a multi-stage move with no room for large handling equipment at any point.
The extended footprint of the air receiver meant that a standard pallet truck couldn’t manage the turns and gradient changes along the route. A long-base pallet truck was specified to maintain stability and control throughout the full journey from loading bay to final position.
The compressor unit and air receiver were successfully delivered to the plant room and positioned in their final locations without incident. The long-base pallet truck proved the correct tool for managing the route constraints, keeping the load stable through every change of gradient and direction.
This project is a good example of Riglift’s approach to plant room installations: assessing the full route from kerb to final position before mobilising, and selecting handling equipment matched to the specific access conditions rather than defaulting to standard kit.
